The Forester’s Lodge

The Forester’s Lodge

It was built around 1880. It became famous for numerous visits of Konstanty Ildefons Galczyński (1905-1953) who for the first time visited the Forester’s Lodge in 1950 (Stanisław Popowski was a forester at that time).

Here the poet created such works as : Kronika Olsztynska, Wit Stwosz, Niobe, Ezop Świeżo Malowany, Cykl Pieśni. In 1980 the daughter of Gałczyński, Kira Gałczyńska (the author of many books including Mazurskie Szlaki Gałczyńskiego „Masurian routes of Gałczyński) opened in the Forester’s Lodge the museum of her father and was for many years its curator.

The Post-German Forester’s Lodge is situated on a small clearing surrounded by the woods. It is a small red-brick building with a wooden veranda, covered with wild grape vine. Inside there was the Warsaw study of Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński reconstructed. In the museum letters addressed to his beloved Nataly, photogrpahs and manuscripts were gathered. In the summer season (July, August) there are classical music concerts which are often accompanied by recitation of Gałczyński’s poetry.

Many outstanding artists of the Polish stage can be met and heard here. For years the Museum of Instanty Ildefons Gałczyński is the unquestioned centre of culture not only for Ruciane- Nida Municipality but the whole Pisz County.
